Individual Psychotherapy

There may be things that are difficult to bring into words, or that don’t quite make sense yet.

Even so, they can continue to have an effect.

What might bring you to therapy

People seek psychotherapy for many different reasons.

You may be living with anxiety, emotional exhaustion or the effects of a significant change or loss. Perhaps you are very hard on yourself, find it difficult to recognise or express what you need, or are exploring how neurodivergence may shape your experience of yourself and the world.

Individual therapy offers space to focus more closely on your own experience: what happens within you, how you respond to your feelings and needs, and how you have come to relate to yourself and others in the ways that you do. You may already have considerable insight into yourself, while finding that understanding alone has not brought the change you hoped for.

The work

This is not about quick solutions or being given answers.

It involves looking at how your ways of thinking, feeling and relating have taken shape over time, including what may have been set aside or kept out of awareness.

We begin with what is present and explore it together.

A relational approach

Attention is given not only to what you bring, but also to what takes place between us in the therapeutic relationship.

This can bring into view patterns that may be difficult to recognise elsewhere, particularly where thoughts, feelings or experiences have been held internally rather than expressed.

You are not expected to share more than feels possible.

Process

There is no expectation to arrive with clarity or to know where to begin.

Some sessions may feel more defined, while others may feel less so. At times, the work may feel slow or uncertain. This is part of the process, not something you need to get right.

Pace

The work is not rushed. It allows space for what may be less immediate, less formed, or less easily reached to emerge over time.

Together, we find a pace that feels manageable for you.

Practical information

Sessions are 50 minutes and usually take place weekly at a regular time.

Getting started

You are welcome to get in touch if you are considering individual psychotherapy.

We can begin with a brief initial conversation to consider what you are looking for and whether my approach feels right for you, with no expectation to commit straight away.
